A poised dialogue of volumes and surfaces, this duo by Bruno Gambone comprises a slender small vase and a miniature handled pot from the 1970s. Made in the artist’s Florentine studio, the set reflects Gambone’s refined reduction of form and palette that defined Italian studio pottery in the decade.
The tall piece narrows to a flared mouth and carries two dark bands over a speckled off-white body; the companion miniature presents rounded walls with tiny lug handles. A light aqua wash at the rims softens the geometry. The subtle granular texture and reserved graphics underscore Gambone’s balance of sculpture and utility, ideal for shelf or desk display as seen in the provided photography.
Both works are signed to the underside. Surfaces show light wear consistent with age; glazes are stable and present well. The pair was likely wheel-thrown and hand-finished, aligning with the studio’s small-batch production of the period.
Bruno Gambone (1936–2021), son of Guido Gambone, developed an elegant, minimalist language after time in New York (late 1960s) and upon returning to Florence in the early 1970s, where he led the family studio. His ceramics—often white, sand-toned and graphically banded—are widely collected for their calm, architectural presence.
