1+1 design gallery is happy to announce its first exhibition in the capital of Slovenia, Ljubljana.
For the event “Design in the city” the gallery is presenting a selection of pieces tied by the common thread of the hand, considered as one of the main tools of the human body. Therefore all the items are not only an expression of design, but also of craft. The location hosting the exhibition is in fact an haberdashery, Gumb, specialized in buttons and wool, located in the heart of Ljubljana’s city central, Trubarjeva cesta 3, a few meters away from the main square Prešernov trg. Gumb stands out in Trubarjeva as one of the very last shops meant for the people living in Ljubljana, while all the rest of the street is now very turistified. With its huge collection of wool threads and buttons, meticulously arranged in gradients of colors, GUMB is a harbor for those who practice hand-knitting and for textile designers in general.

Among the pieces presented, the renown Ico Parisi “Hand” vase for Zanolli & Sebellin offers an iconic manifesto; the Estela lamps by Campana Brothers feature a knitted shade, as well as the rare Stilnovo 8024 lamp; the Aghia lamp by Pamio & Toso features a hand blown shade; the “Forma di Maggio” sculpture by Urano Palma is made of hand-carved wood; an extralarge ceramic sculpture by Pino Castagna has been carefully crafted and glazed. Last but not least, the famous “Pipistrello” lamp by Gae Aulenti features a handle on the top, in order to adjust its height with a gesture.

In the occasion of the exhibition, on the evenings of October 5th and 6th, a buffet will be offered by Gostilnica 5-6 KG. Tastings will take place on October 5th and 6th at H 18.
