Model “Mirtide” dresser designed by Ignazio Gardella in 1985 for MisuraEmme, the Brianza manufacturer celebrated for its collaborations with leading Milanese architects. Conceived as part of a coherent bedroom program with the “Corinna” bedside tables and the “Pindaro” bed, the series translated Gardella’s measured architectural language into refined domestic furniture.
The dresser presents a rigorously composed volume with a raised gallery of oval apertures and four broad drawers set within flush planes. Finished in gunmetal-grey glossy lacquer, the piece balances crisp geometry with softened edges; the reflective surface subtly animates the facade while maintaining an elegant, sober presence.
Produced from 1985 and discontinued before 1990, the series is seldom encountered on the market. This example, acquired together with the matching nightstands from the stock of a historic furniture store in the province of Pavia, shows only minor handling marks from showroom display and subsequent storage.
The model and dating are consistent with information from MisuraEmme’s archive; within the same collaboration Gardella also developed the “Partenio” table and the “Elegie” bookcase (a re-edition of his Azucena design).
A concise statement of Gardella’s rational yet humane approach, the “Mirtide” dresser is both practical and collectible—an authentic late-20th-century Italian case piece that pairs naturally with the “Corinna” nightstands. A remarkable example of Italian design merging functional intelligence and aesthetic refinement.
