The lamp consists of a 215 cm-long black lacquered metal bar with a white opaline plastic diffuser, which emits a soft, ambient light. The minimalist construction gives the piece a striking architectural presence, typical of Magistretti’s design language.
This example comes from a 1970s kindergarten in Genoa, where a pair of these lamps were originally installed. Both are preserved in good vintage condition, with minor signs of wear such as small scratches and slight paint losses; the diffusers remain in excellent state.
Each lamp can be sold separately.
Widely documented in the Vico Magistretti Foundation archive and in Artemide’s original catalogues, the "Impiccato" remains a rare find, as it was produced in smaller numbers than other Artemide models of the period.
A rare and highly functional design by Vico Magistretti, combining technical intelligence with the elegance of Italian modernism.
Founded in Milan in 1959 by Ernesto Gismondi and Sergio Mazza, Artemide became one of Italy’s leading lighting manufacturers, collaborating with designers such as Sergio Mazza, Gae Aulenti, Ernesto Gismondi and of course Vico Magistretti, . Its 1970s production stands out for combining functional innovation with sculptural simplicity, exemplified in pieces like the Impiccato.
