Pair of 1950s fist edition “Baghdad” table lamps by Mathieu Matégot
Mathieu Matégot

This iconic model "Baghdad", designed by Mathieu Matégot, were produced in the 1950s for Ateliers Matégot.

Made out of varnished perforated metal sheets with a brass tip, with a faceted base that allows it to be placed in different positions, these lamps are an example of early edition of this model, and therefore a rare and collectible pair.

Their colors, red and black, are a perfect match. They can eventually be purchased together with the matching "Java" lamps in our inventory.
These lamps are an outstanding example of the genius of the French-Hungarian design master, able to find a creative source in the use of simple materials typical of the post-war reconstruction period. The perforated metal sheet is indeed the most recognizable element of Matégot's design. They remain in good vintage conditions, with  patina and signs of wear that give them charm and show their authenticity. Old B22 french light socket.
