Created in Italy in the 1990s, this pair of ceramic bowls by Bruno Gambone reflects the artist’s measured dialogue between sculptural clarity and chromatic research. The son of Guido Gambone, Bruno emerged as a leading voice in late-20th-century Italian ceramics, shaping a language that bridges studio craft and contemporary design.
Each bowl juxtaposes a luminous turquoise interior glaze with a deliberately matte, earthy exterior in brown and terracotta tones. One form is more cylindrical with a subtly banded body, while the other flares gently toward the rim, emphasizing the hand’s role in shaping volume and proportion. The sensual turquoise—pooling and variegated—animates the interior surface while the exterior retains the tactile grain of the clay.
Technical notes: handmade studio production; terracotta body with glazed interior. Both bowls are signed in full “Bruno Gambone” on the underside, a signature consistent with his 1990s work. The pair is preserved in excellent vintage condition with no restorations. Viewed together, the pieces exemplify Gambone’s mature vocabulary: refined forms, expressive glazing, and an assured balance of texture and color.
