This “Stoppable #2” doorstop is part of the Stoppableseries created by English artist Will West and first showcased in 2023 in the exhibition curated by 1+1 Gallery at Oxilia Gallery, Milan.

Carved by hand from a solid block of Portoro marble, the piece features a polished finish that enhances the stone’s dramatic golden veining.

Unlike traditional doorstops with an applied handle, this design incorporates a recess carved directly into the marble, allowing it to be grasped with the fingers while maintaining the integrity of its uncompromising geometry.
The form — a pure parallelepiped — is austere and elemental, affirming West’s exploration of how everyday accessories can be elevated into sculptural, collectible design objects.
In Stoppable, West explored two quintessentially accessory objects — the bookend and the doorstop — elevating them into sculptural statements. Each work in the series is carved from solid marble, entirely handcrafted, and unique in weight, proportion, and finish.
