2 “Giovi” wall lamps by Achille Castiglioni for Flos 1980s
This pair of wall lamps is the work of the brilliant Italian designer Achille Castiglioni. Part of Castiglioni's decade-long collaboration with Flos, they were designed in 1982 and are no longer produced.
These lamps are as discreet when turned off as they are extremely scenic when turned on, as they cast a series of rays on the side, like a shining sun.
As always in Castiglioni's works, the ingenuity with which they were made is surprising: a ridged cap that distances the lampholder from the wall allows the creation of the ray light effect, and the front shade is locked by two click buttons. Also persistent is a rubber ring that allows the plate covering the wall mount to remain in place.
These lamps remain in excellent vintage condition; they came from a lighting store's warehouse and have never been used. Nevertheless, they have signs of use consistent with their age, and patina to the paint.
