Pair of mod. 920 Club armchairs by Afra & Tobia Scarpa for Cassina, 1960s
This rare pair of wood and leather armchairs was designed by architect duo Afra & Tobia Scarpa in 1964. It is part of their earliest designs for Cassina.
The 920 series included armchairs and sofas, representing a development of the "Bastiano" model. The wooden boards are replaced by upholstered panels that form a box to contain the free cushions. With respect to the 917 chair, the foot is not a continuation of the lateral segments of the armrests, but an independent part, placed inside the perimeter of the structure. This product combines a severe design with intriguing constructive solutions.
The two armchairs we offer are a rarer variant without the armrests, and represent an even more minimalist refinement. They feature relatively small dimensions that allow them to be placed in any living room, but still manage to be very comfortable.
The two pieces we offer for sale are in excellent original condition, with the leather cushions in perfect condition and the upholstery perfectly usable. The wooden frame shows slight signs of use and patina of time. Under the seat of both is the Cassina label.
