Isamu Noguchi
Isamu Noguchi (1904–1988) was a Japanese-American sculptor and designer whose work bridged sculpture, landscape, furniture, and lighting. After an early apprenticeship with Constantin Brancusi, Noguchi developed a language of organic abstraction expressed in stone, wood, metal, and paper. His Akari Light Sculptures (from 1951) fused Gifu washi craft with modernist ideals; other design icons include the Noguchi coffee table for Herman Miller. Noguchi’s work is held by major museums worldwide, and his New York foundation and museum preserves his studio legacy.
