This pair of one-off bookends, made of solid Portoro marble, has been crafted by English artist Will West as part of a series showcased for the first time in the exhibition "Stoppable", curated by 1+1 gallery and held at Oxilia Gallery, in 2023.

This pair of bookends embodies a paradox: their shape is that of a solid, that is something geometrically stable, which here is placed instead in precarious equilibrium thanks to a hidden angled base plate, with an alienating result: they appear to be on the verge of falling. 

In "Stoppable," Will West makes a dogged exercise around two types of accessory objects by definition, the doorstop and the bookend. Made of solid marble of different types,  each piece is completely handcrafted and always different in weight and size even from similar specimens.
