Founded in Milan in 1946, Stilnovo built its reputation on lighting of rigorous clarity: industrial in logic, domestic in scale, and often more refined than it first appears. Model 1245, from the late 1950s, is a concentrated example of that approach.
Three elements, three surfaces. A black enameled canopy fixes to the ceiling (or it can be recessed). A brushed nickel-plated band, set with three knurled thumbscrews, holds the diffuser. An opal triplex glass cylinder completes the volume; its layered glass spreads the light evenly and conceals the bulb. Nothing is decorative and nothing is missing. The proportions give it presence: a compact, closed cylinder that suits a hallway, a bathroom or a kitchen as well as a contemporary interior. It can also be wall-mounted, though its projection makes it most effective as a ceiling light.
This example is original in every component and in excellent vintage condition. Inside the metal band, the yellow Stilnovo Milano Italy label is still in place. This is the version used before the company adopted its red label in the 1960s, and a reliable indicator of this early production.
Period wiring in working conditions, no longer fitting current standards, needs to be checked by a qualified electrician to assess if rewiring is required or not.
